BACKGROUND

We are aiming to make a product that can connect people with their loved ones even when they are being separated from each other. Students who are studying abroad, or people who are working away from their families often feel lonely easily. Moreover, because of the pandemic, it is even harder to go home. Thus, we are hoping to reduce the distance barrier.

Our first persona is Dora Wang, she is 19 years old and currently studying abroad at a university in Taiwan. It has almost been 2 years since she came to Taiwan and because of the pandemic, she couldn’t go back to her home country as she pleases. She is the only child of her family and it is her first time being away from her family for such a long time.

1. It is Mid-Autumn festival tomorrow. Dora can see the other students going home with their families as soon as the class is dismissed. This year, she couldn't celebrate the holiday with her family as she used to. When she reaches her room, everyone has already gone home, so she is left alone.

2. Dora really missed her parents. There is no one to greet her when she comes back home or be by her side when she is having a hard time. Especially in a time like this, when people are supposed to be enjoying their time with their families. Right now, she wants to call her mom, but she has a lot of assignments to take care of.

3. She ends up doing her assignments until late and it is already past 3 AM. She checks her phone and notices tons of missed calls from her mom. She is

frustrated that she didn't hear those calls.

1. Dora wakes up to her alarm and texts her mom saying she’s already up and is starting to get ready for class. She selects the questions she wants her mom to answer through the notification that will be gotten throughout the day. She can set the same questions for a whole week, or month, depending on her mood.

2. After 30 mins, Dora is finally ready for class. Before leaving, she scrolls through her phone and receives a notification; “Good morning Dora! Please select one of the emojis below that best describe your mood as of now.”

3. Dora then selects the sleepy emoji because her class starts early at eight in the morning. The screen then says “Thank you! Don’t forget to eat breakfast and do an update!”

4. Dora’s done with work and then receives another notification saying: “Dora, how was work? Please select one of the emojis that best describe your mood as of now.” Dora has her schedule written on the app, so the app automatically sends Dora notifications as soon as she’s done with work. She then texts her mom saying she just got off work.

5. On the middle of doing her assignments, Dora checks on the app to see whether her mom is online and that could result in them video calling. Dora checks on her mom’s location but then notices she isn’t home and is in the supermarket. She then video record herself saying: “Mom I’m doing my assignments right now and I think I’ll be asleep by the time you get home. Today’s work was fun and I had a good time. Bye!”

1. As soon as Dora woke up this morning, she used the App to send Morning Sunflower to her mother. After that, she rushed out of bed and hurriedly brushed her teeth to prepare to go out because she was about to be late for class. On the way to class, the phone kept vibrating, but because she was in a hurry, she ignored it.

2. It was already 12 noon. The main page of the App showed Weather in both countries. She saw that it was a sunny baby. But the weather in the area where parents are there is a rain baby. On the way to buy lunch, she took a selfie on TimeLine and recorded a limited-time dynamic. She told her parents that she was late for class in the morning, so she didn't reply to them, and she was on the way to buy lunch. After recording, click Finish and the post will be displayed at 12:10 on the timeline.

3. She used the Reminder toolbox to click on the Umbrella icon and tag @supermom @superdad to remind her parents to bring an umbrella when going out. After TimeLine has a red dot notification, click on it and it will pop up to show Countdown for Supermom’s 46 birthday. She suddenly remembered that it would be her mother's birthday in 2 weeks, so she planned to buy gifts on the weekend and send them back to her mother. She also started designing a short blessing video on Present.

4. She wrote a lot of thoughts about her family, and also attached a photo of them. After she finished her lunch, she was ready to continue her afternoon class.

1. Woke up in the morning, said good morning to her mother with her mobile phone, and then was about to go to class. On the way to class, Dora put on headphones and walked to the classroom while listening to music. At noon, Dora used her mobile phone to take photos of today’s lunch to her mother. After class, Dora put on the headphones again and hitchhiked back to the dormitory.

2. In the evening, Dora sent pictures of the dinner to her mother. When she was full, Dora started to do her homework. After finishing her homework, Dora started to use the mobile phone community to watch videos and play games on her phone.

3. Before going to bed, Dora set the alarm clock with her cell phone and talked with her mother on the phone.

1. While getting ready in the morning, Dora uses Connect to check her schedule.

Today there is an opera competition at school that she participates in, so this item is conspicuous to be seen in the schedule. Then she finds online memos left by her mom in the early morning under this arrangement, which remind her of taking the lozenges before the contest for throat protection. The memos are followed by numerous messages of warm encouragements from her family, which has been automatically transformed into audio messages based on the stored voiceprint information. When eating breakfast and listening to the clear voice from her missed family members, Dora feels fully energetic and owns more courage to take part in the contest.

2. The competition is coming to an end and Dora gets a second price at it. She is so delighted and posts a picture in her Instagram to share it with her friends. When she is clicking the post button, a pop-up screen appears, asking whether to synchronously upload the picture to App Connect and share it with whole families. Without hesitation, she clicks yes, so the picture is embedded into her profile under the item of opera competition. Dora’s parents instantly see it in her homepage and feel so proud of her.

3. There’s not much time for rest after the competition. Dora just rushes to the

classroom for today’s first class. Her parents have checked her course schedule via Connect so they don’t want to interrupt her until all the classed ended in the late afternoon. When Dora is back to dormitory at dusk, the GPS function of Connect in her mobile phone soon locates her and finds out both the place and time are marked as “suitable for video/audio calls” by Dora. An audio call is initiated automatically between her parents and Dora. With one click, the voice call has been transformed into a video call, Dora see her parents’ faces just as excited as hers clearly and received the warm congratulations from them.

4. While talking about the competition today, the family and Dora begin to have

dinner simultaneously. Dora opens the PC version of Connect, and the video call

on the phone is transferred immediately into the laptop, which makes it easy to

see all the familiar homemade food and family members through the split screen.

Dora just feels like she’s eating at home.

2. Once the online conference ends, Doris continues using her laptop to open Connect and check messages from Christina and the App automatically starts a video call between them. After opening the Dolby Atmos and putting on earphones, the sound of Christina becomes so clear and vivid that Doris feels like talking face-to-face with her.

3. Having enjoyed chatting for a few minutes, on the corner of the screen emerges an alert that Doris’s Wi-Fi connection is not stable enough, which may cause damage to the quality of video calls. And at this precise moment, there is an instruction appears on the screen telling her to move to the northern part of the house. While she was moving, the real-time internet speed showed on the screen is changing simultaneously. When she arrives at the destination, the Internet connection is normal again and the chat can be continued without interruptions.
